Turns out your mom was wrong

Ever wondered why you stuff your face to the brim at Thanksgiving… only to somehow find a little bit more room once someone reminds you there’s pie? Turns out there’s such a thing as a “Dessert Stomach.”

The more scientific term would be “sensory-specific satiety” but the idea is the same. The more you eat something during a meal, the less we like it so our body will give us the feeling that we are full.

So, introducing a new flavor, for instance something sweet after big savory meal, it can override that feeling of feeling full and your taste buds will get excited to eat again.

And mom’s words still echo in your ear… “How come you always seem to have room for dessert but you can’t finish your dinner?”
