Margo Price will drop her new album, Hard Headed Woman, arriving August 29th. The country singer-songwriter also shared the new song “Don’t Let the Bastards Get You Down.”
Hard Headed Woman follows Price’s celebrated 2023 release Strays, and sees her reuniting with producer Matt Ross-Spang. The album features duets with Tyler Childers and Jesse Welles and was recorded in Nashville, where she’s resided for over 20 years — she bills the project as “a manifesto, a tribute to both a city and a genre, a defiant cry for individuality, and a deep exploration of America. I always hope to do like Johnny Cash did, which is speak up for the common man and woman. But there have been so many threats and anger and vitriol over the years, when I am only coming from a place of love. So I made the decision to rebuild everything from the ground up. I hope this album inspires people to be fearless and take chances and just be unabashedly themselves, in a culture that tries as hard as it can to beat us into all being the same.”
“Don’t Let the Bastards Get You Down” was co-written by Jeremy Ivey, Kris Kristofferson, and Rodney Crowell and comes alongside a music video with shots of an audience throwing bottles at Price as she performs at a dive bar, and then whirling through town on four-wheeler, before getting it polished up at a car wash.
